Bloodstone gets its name from the occasional flecks or veins of reddish color within the green stone, resembling drops of blood. Not all stones show the flecks, and some stones will be all green. As a result of being related to the blood and heart, bloodstone has many associated metaphysical properties which can be used as part of your ritual or spiritual practice. Historically, bloodstone was engraved by ancient Babylonians and used for divination. Also known as the Mother Goddess Stone, it is associated with Isis and Horus.  In the middle ages, it was also known as the Martyr's Stone.
