This is not just some lady on a dragon. This is La Peri, holding the Flower of Immortality. She holds a lute because she is the Musician of the Gods. This stunning cold cast resin bronze statue is 11 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches high featuring the Musician of the Gods on a winged dragon. Hand painted color accents and very fine detail makes this a truly stunning piece. The cold-cast bronze process suspends bronze powder in high-quality resin, enabling very fine detail and a bronze patina, and the felt base makes this safe for your finest furniture.
A ballet called La Peri ("The Fairy') first staged in Paris on 22nd April 1912. Composed by Paul Dukas for a Russian dancer, Natasha Truhanova, the story it tells goes back centuries to the ancient kingdom of Persia (which we now know as Iran).
In this ancient Persian story, the great Magi Iskander realized his star was waning and spent three years searching for the Flower of Immortality. Finally, he reached the end of the Earth. At the Gates of Paradise he came upon a sleeping Fairy (la Peri) with jeweled robe and lute who holds the flower in her hand. Without waking her, Iskender stole the Flower and fell in love with her. La Peri knew exactly what Iskender had on his mind, because in his hand the lotus grew purple and became like the face of desire. As she danced the dance of the Fairies, drawing closer and closer to Iskender, and finally touching his face, Iskander, divided between his thirst for life and passion for La Peri, gives up the flower.
