by Corrine Kenner
Revered for their beauty, unique electrical qualities, and metaphysical attributes, crystals have been precious to mankind for centuries. Crystals for Beginners explores the universal allure of crystals and demonstrates how to channel their dynamic energies.
Beginning with how crystals were formed in the Earth billions of years ago, this practical guide introduces the history and myth surrounding these powerful minerals. From agates to zoisite, the characteristics of specific crystals are presented, along with advice for collecting, cleansing, and charging them. Readers also learn how to apply crystal energy to meditation, healing, psychic development, magic, divination, astral projection, dream work, and much more.
Library Journal
Certified tarot master Kenner has created a tidy compendium on using crystals for metaphysical work. She starts with a credible and simplified scientific explanation of how crystals are formed and why they make such good amplifiers for healing, divination, and magic. She avoids the usual exacting diagnostics of specific stones for specific problems, instead offering a wide range of usage suggestions, shopping tips, decorating ideas, rock lore, and recommendations for crystal care under such chapter headings as "How To Choose Crystals for Your Collection" and "Crystals for Health and Healing." Skimming the surface of topics covered in greater depth by others writing on crystals, Kenner meets her obligation of comprehensiveness to beginners. A glossary and quick reference guides cover correspondences of stones to zodiac signs, chakras, and the like. Though the book includes 17 small pen-and-ink illustrations, photographs would have made a nice addition. Recommended for public libraries with a New Age crowd. (Ten-page index not seen.)
